Much like Robinson Cano last year, when a star player bottoms out, you can almost make him a daily addition to your FanDuel or DraftKings lineup. It’s only a matter of time before they play to the level of their abilities. This week, Matt Harvey looks like a guy in that situation, so getting him in at least a few of your lineups is a good strategy.

As always, we’re here trying to spot the best values and fades for the upcoming week, so here are the trends, matchups and information you need to know for Week 13 in the world of DFS.
FanDuel and DraftKings strategy
PLAYER AT PEAK SALARY:
Russell Martin, C, TOR ($4.7K DraftKings)
I don’t care if Martin has been better in his past 10 games, nor do I care that he’s playing in Colorado for a few days then back home this weekend in the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. Martin can’t eat up $4K-plus of your team budget. He’s still hitting .212 on the year and coming off a 2015 second half where he all but disappeared offensively. The catcher position as a whole is often faded, but if you have the inclination to pay up for one, Buster Posey or Jonathan Lucroy are light years more productive than Martin.
PITCHER PRICED BELOW VALUE:
Matt Harvey, NYM ($6.5K DraftKings/$8.3K FanDuel)
We all know Harvey hasn’t been what we’ve expected as fantasy owners, but he’s turned things around of late with four quality starts on his past five tries. Now, I realize he faces the class of the NL this week with the Nationals and the Cubs. However, Harvey has always had a reputation of rising to the occasion. For $6.5K on DraftKings, you’re still getting Harvey, and his first this week is against Lucas Giolito, who’s jumping from Double-A to make his big league debut. The Dark Knight could be the hero you’re looking for this week.
HITTER PRICED BELOW VALUE:
Tyler Naquin, OF, CLE ($3.4 DraftKings/$3.5K FanDuel)
Naquin was a steady climber in the Indians’ system but never got the publicity of other prospects like Clint Frazier or Bradley Zimmer. However, since Michael Brantley went back on the DL, Naquin has been a force. His .322/.376/.591 slash has been elite, but his cost is still well beneath that productivity. He posted 18 or more points on DK in his last three games heading into Monday and is looking like a cost effective option this week against the Braves and Blue Jays. Not every young player that makes an impact has to be a highly rated prospect. There’s plenty of blue collar youngsters who can influence your fantasy bottom line on the positive side.

Daily fantasy baseball hitter strategy
Michael Taylor and Ben Revere could be very low-cost outfielders this week against the Mets, who have given up the most steals in MLB this year. The same could be said for Jason Heyward this weekend versus New York. If these guys get on base, they’ll be mobile!
The Blue Jays travel to Colorado early this week, which should result in some mega salaries on both sides. There’s no way balls don’t fly out of this yard with those sluggers and the lack of starting pitching between the two teams. You’ll need to own a few of these guys in cash games just to stay competitive.
The starting rotation, which started out as a strength, has become a liability for the Phillies. They’ve come back down to Earth (including Aaron Nola), and the Diamondbacks and Royals should feast off them this week.
The Astros’ offense really caught fire last weekend, scoring 27 runs in three games versus Kansas City. George Springer’s move to the leadoff spot has awoken his bat, and perhaps the most powerful minor league slugger, A.J. Reed, joined the team this weekend. He’ll see plenty of time between DH and 1B and should be a nice value that will let you afford TOR/COL bats in your lineup early this week. Houston faces the suspect Angels’ staff on the road and the scuffling White Sox in Houston this week, so avoid Reed against the tough lefties Quintana and Sale.
